Define the map boundary

Choose relationship types

Map relationships, not just citations
Choose a unit for each node: a paper, concept, method, dataset, or disputed claim. Connect nodes with labeled relationships such as extends, contradicts, replicates, applies, critiques, or shares data. Start from a small set of central sources and expand only when a new item changes the map. Use color or tags for study design, population, date, and confidence so clusters and gaps can be inspected rather than guessed. A dense citation cluster is not automatically the most reliable one; check whether it rests on a common dataset or repeated assumption. Update the map when your question changes, and keep a short note explaining why each connection exists.
