Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is a lawyer, writer, and former First Lady of the United States. She was the first African-American First Lady and served from 2009 to 2017. A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, she began her career as an attorney at the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin, where she met her future husband, Barack Obama.
As First Lady, she worked on issues of poverty awareness, education, nutrition, and healthy eating. She launched the Let's Move! initiative to address childhood obesity and championed support for military families. Since leaving the White House, she has continued her advocacy work through the Obama Foundation.
